Extortion rates in Southern Israel are the highest in nation

Protection payments amount to tens of millions of shekels per year, which funds Bedouin criminal gangs, clan warfare, nationalistic crimes and terrorism

Arab suspects were implicated in 47% of all extortion cases in the last two years

78% of all extortion cases are closed without indictment or resolution

20% of all extortion cases nationwide occur in the South of Israel

Extortion rates are 35% higher in the South then the rest of the country

VIOLENT CRIMES


VIOLENT CRIMES include physical assault, weapons offenses, rioting, gang and clan warfare, terrorism and nationalistic crimes, as well as a range of crimes against women and girls.

THE FACTS

Violent crimes are 50% higher in the South than the rest of Israel.

21,729 cases of violence and threats in 2020 were reported in the South, representing almost 25% of all cases nationwide

Reports of shootings increased 64% between 2017-2020

Weapons offenses almost doubled between 2017-2020

Bedouin attacks on Police Stations and IDF bases, including infiltration, theft, arson, and stone throwing, are on the rise

Crimes against Israeli and Bedouin women and girls in the South are common, and include human trafficking, forced prostitution, polygamy and forced marriage, sexual harassment, kidnapping, and rape

TAX CRIMES


TAX CRIMES include welfare fraud, utility theft, tax evasion, and false claims of residency or land ownership to demand municipal resources.

THE FACTS

Bedouin welfare payments in the Negev are 3 times the national average 

Only 24% of property taxes are collected from Bedouin communities in the Negev, compared to 78% in the surrounding communities

Bedouins source approximately 70% of their overall income from government stipends and subsidies, amounting to over NIS 500 million each year in the Negev

Bedouins use polygamy and false claims of divorce in Sharia Courts to apply for benefits and preferential tax rates awarded to "single parent households"

Lost tax revenue from "pirate" gas stations in the Negev amounts to over NIS 400 million each year, while water theft amounts to over NIS 20 million

PROPERTY CRIMES


PROPERTY CRIMES such as vandalism, destruction, and theft affects private homes, businesses, and government infrastructure including utility stations, police stations, and IDF bases.

THE FACTS

The Southern District has the highest rate of property crimes in Israel 

Property offenses in the South are 35% higher then the national average

In 2020, 19% of all property offenses nationwide occurred in the Southern District

Due to ongoing threats and destruction, local residents and businesses are unable to acquire insurance or are having their insurance plans cancelled

Israeli farmers loose millions of shekels a year to agricultural theft and arson, as well as rising private security costs

TRAFFIC & ROAD CRIMES


TRAFFIC & ROAD CRIMES include a range of illegal activity including car and camel racing, excessive speeding, underage driving, driving without a license, dangerous and aggressive driving, attacks on public buses, as well as car jacking, theft, and destruction   
 

THE FACTS

Bedouins cause more minor, serious and fatal road accidents in the South then any other demographic group in the region

Bedouins represent 87% of reports for driving without a license in the Negev

Between 2016-2020, 244 Bedouin minors were caught driving without a license

61% of fatal car accidents in Negev are caused by Bedouins, who account for just 10% of the drivers in the Southern District

Between 2008-2018, 17 people were killed almost 400 people were injured due to animal related accidents in the Negev
